Hugo House: Making Meaning in Memoir
Memories aren’t enough to make a memoir. To make a great story, we have to connect our memories to culture, to history, to zeitgeist—and then be as clear and specific about our unique perspectives as possible. In this generative workshop, we’ll open a number of creative doorways (and windows and portholes and tunnels) into meaning and discuss how and why they work. Participants will leave with at least twelve new prompts for mining memory and life stories for deeper meaning.
May 28-June 1, 2024
Honolulu, Hawaii
National Conference on Race and Ethnicity in Higher Ed
I'm thrilled to be at NCORE again this year and presenting a short workshop on Reframing Problems to Generate Solutions. This is about linguistic reframing, y'all, a skill that makes us better listeners too. You'll also find me for book signings in the Speakout Booth in the exhibit hall.
June 24 - July 7, 2024
Fresno, California
CSU Summer Arts- Social Action Writing: Creating Community and Perspective
I'm so looking forward to spending time with you and all of the other amazing Summer Artisans. Look at Bushra Rehman's work (and read her new novel, Roses in the Mouth of a Lion) because she'll be one of your teachers and co-conspirators. Also look up Faith Adiele who is with us through the course. You won't be sorry. Applications open in January 2024.
October 23-26, 2024
Auckland, New Zealand
International Symposium on Poetic Inquiry
I'll be presenting online at the symposium with a fine group of folks using poetry in research in the social sciences. I'm always thrilled to spend time with them. And while I'm in New Zealand, I'd be happy to offer what I can to other groups too. Please get in touch and we'll work it out.
November 14-17, 2024
Detroit, Michigan
National Women's Studies Association Conference
I'm thrilled to present with other authors. More information to come.
